The All Saints Sessions - Easter Morning Celebration from 1993

Once again I'm posting from what I've been calling "The All Saints Sessions".

The All Saints Sessions are a hand full of old recordings (some Audio, some video) captured in the 1990's at All Saint Anglican Church in Niagara Falls.

I have previously posted Audio from Lessons  & Carols & Christmas Eve Services. Now it's time for  video of the 1993 Easter Morning Celebration.

This is a 25 year old video taken with a consumer camcorder & recorded on a magnetic tape that sat in a box for about 15 years before being digitized. I've done some light colour correction & a bit of work to boost the audio. But, for the most part I've left it looking & sounding like a home video from 25 years ago. A few edits have been made to remove problems with tape and so on but, it's mostly the same as it was when it was shot.

The video has been divided it into smaller pieces for easy posting.

Part 2

 Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

Part 6

Easter 1993 can also be viewed on YouTube & Flickr.

I have an idea that there could possibly be an additional recording hiding somewhere. If any more turn up I add them to the collection. For now all the parts I have of the All Saints Sessions are here on the blog.

Christmas morning about 2004.
See the whole album "Ghosts of Christmas Past"

Twelve days of December are past & twelve more til' Christmas. I guess that makes today a sort of a 'holiday hump day'.

Today is also St. Lucia's Day a popular celebration in part of Europe. The idea of a visit via  chimney was most likely borrowed from this celebration.  St. Lucia didn't just come down the chimney, but also took the naughty children up the chimney to face their punishment.

I've been reading a book about old Christmas celebrations and the elements that came from older traditions. I'm really enjoying the book and maybe next year I can do a series of posts about more of the old traditions. Maybe.

Pic-of-The-day - "DOF".

In the photography world 'DOF' is stands for 'Depth Of Field'.  DOF describes how much of the photo is in focus at one time. DOF is usually used in connection to shallow depth of field where only a small part of the image is in foucs. This can be a very striking technique.  Deep DOF (with most of the frame in focus) is often overlooked but, can also be useful & interesting.

I actually find Deep Dof to be a bit more difficult. It's not difficult to achieve, but it's difficult to direct the eye of the viewer to the intended spot. It's easy to direct the eye when theres' only a small area in focus, so easy it sometimes feels like cheating.

Sometimes I need to remind myself to practice deep DOF & use other ways of directing the eye, like colour, leading lines, choice of subject etc.  I really set myself a challenge this morning and I 'm not sure I really achieved what I was trying too, but as they say 'practice makes perfect'.

On my detour I found a few interesting subjects,  including this nice view of the winter sun shining through these windows on a motel made for summer vacations.

I suspect someone was or is staying here, my real question is whether this is how they gain access away from prying eyes or is this a precaution to make sure they have a way out in a quiet spot?

Pic-of-The-day

The starting gate at Fort Erie Race Track, getting a final once over before going away til next spring.
It's taken me so long to get this posted that this photo that the new racing season seems just around the corner.

My feeling that the new season is close, is probably because my day job is working on media & promotions for that new season.

Like some people have to work on Christmas (ads photos, videos etc.)  in July, I spend my winter preparing different types of media to encourage people to come spend sunny summer afternoons at the track & warm evenings at the Tiki Bar.
