Getting Back on the Horse (AKA:#PoTd for 02-13-20)

I'm trying to "Get Back on the Horse". It's more like trying to get back on schedule.

What it really means is that I haven't been posting as much as I'd like. There are photos to Flickr,  videos to youtube & vimeo and even podcasts that should be posted then blogged about & tweeted.

It's starting to sound like a lot & it is a fair bot of work but, the really time consuming part is often making the things in the first place. That's where I've gotten behind. I usually make things ahead of time (when possible) & create a bit of a buffer or excess of stuff to post.

This usually allows me to keep posting things when other parts of my life get busy.  At this point most of the stuff that's made and prescheduled has run out. Now I 'm  trying to get stuff finished and rebuild that stock pile to fill up the queue's and get things back on schedule.

While I've been working on that I haven't been posting anything (expect to flickr as that queue was a bit longer than the rest). I sort of had this vision of stacking up all this work and scheduling all out so it would be "set it and forget it". Which is exactly what I hoped to do, that is forget it for a while & concentrate on some other stuff.

But, that's not how life works ... at least not my life.  So, this is me taking a small step to get back on the horse and post a little bit at a time while I try to get caught up.

This is not the last time I'll have to get back on this horse,  in fact every day we get out of bed is 'getting back on the horse' to some extent. That idea is sort of comforting.  It makes it seem a little less daunting, its' not "GETTING BACK ON THE HORSE" it's just getting on another horse just like we've done a thousand times before.

Window into Winters that where.

Pic-of-The-day

Scans of old family photos taken in the great Canadian winters of years gone by.

They are all family photos (ie not purchased).  I won't try to detail who everyone is,  as I 'm not sure about every person in every photo.

Holiday Greeting

Here's set of 4 personalized Christmas greeting I made for different households in my family to use a holiday greetings on social media.

They are all variations on the same format, but all have they're own twist.

I've  been going through a wide range of tutorials to improve my skills in the Adobe suite of software.  So I took a few different elements and came up with these Christmas greetings.

If your interested,  some of the elements where created in Photoshop & the rest in After effects.  I was going to use Illustrator for some elements but found out I could do them in AE just as well, which (aside from making something cool for people) was one of the reasons to make them. So I could get some practice and learn something new.

Pic-of-The-day - "Summer Walk".

A summer afternoon walk with a camera.
When I need more content all I need to do is wander around my neighbourhood.

If I lucky I end up with a them,  If I'm really lucky I end up with a video. If I not so lucky I get a bunch of unrelated images, still not too bad. On this wander I got the chance  get some nice dappled light at the top of the 180' deep gorge carved by the Niagara river.

Pic-of-The-day - "Tube".

This looks like a pipe, but due to the I think it may contains machinery connected to a railway bridge (over a street) on the approach to a larger bridge over an old Welland Canal.

Pic-of-The-day - "Pilings".

Posts that I believe where pilings for a bridge abutment.  They surround an abutment of a train trestle crossing the Welland River (aka the Crick).  There's a lot going on in the area, The rail line goes under the QEW & over the Welland River, at the spot where a hydro canal starts funneling water to the Sir Adam Beck power plant.

Pic-of-The-day - "Yet another obsession".

Along with my other obsessions & favourite things to photograph, I'm obsessed with wiht railway tracks. There's so many reason to love them, aside from the visual appeal, which is enough all by itself.

So many are seldom-used or completely unused. They are stoutly constructed entities from the past that still work as well today as they ever did.

They are industrial, historical & officially off limits. A railway brings so many things to mind, travel,  & adventure, there's also nostalgia & a bit of loneliness or at least isolation that's mixed in with the entropy of an old railway.

With all that sub-text, how can I resist?
